Portable Storage Tip: Choose Integrated Roof Design

Choose a portable storage company that offers a watertight and structurally secure mobile storage container. Find out how it's constructed. Is it made of galvanized steel and fiberglass, or it is designed with wood and tarps? Is it water, U/V and mold resistant? Can it withstand rain and wind? Also, inquire if the container has an integrated roof system or a roof cap (like a shoebox). What's the difference? An integrated roof system (with bowed roof) ensures the container will remain watertight and it allows for the natural run-off of water. By contrast, a roof cap design can invite moisture, mold and insects.

As you consider who you will choose to move your cherished belongings, remember it pays to think twice about quality and reliability.

Tips for Comparing Portable Storage Companies

All portable storage containers and providers are not created equal. To make sure you get the best quality product, value and customer service for your moving and portable storage needs you have to do your homework. Below are a few quick tips for what to look and ask for when searching for the best fit:

Does the company offer a watertight and structurally secure mobile storage container? In other words, does the container have an integrated roof system or a roof cap (e.g. like a shoebox)? An integrated roof system (with bowed roof) ensures the container is watertight and allows for the natural run-off of water. By contrast, a roof cap design can invite moisture, mold and insects.

Is the roof translucent? This is an important feature to inquire about, as it allows for optimal visibility while loading and unloading the storage container. Otherwise, you'll need a very strong flashlight and/or a bright, sunny day in order to try to see what's inside the container.

Is there a mechanism for securing your treasured belongings during transit? This is an essential to question to ask. You'll want an integrated channel strapping system to safely secure your fine furniture and belongings to the sides of the container for safekeeping during transit. Some companies merely offer eyehooks, or worse yet, nothing at all.

Does the portable storage provider have a secure, temperature-controlled (heat and A/C) warehouse? This is very important if you plan to store your container in a warehouse for any part of your rental, especially during the most severe seasons (e.g. summer and winter) when you want to ensure your belongings are free of humidity and the extreme outdoor elements. Some companies offer a "climate-controlled" warehouse, but that typically means heat only. And, some providers don't even offer traditional warehouses, but rather outdoor lots.

Is the company locally owned and operated with a dedicated customer care team, or are you dealing with an impersonal call center? Do you want to speak with someone who will handle your order from start to finish, and actually remember who you are from call to call? If so, be sure to inquire if the company is locally owned and operated or if you'll be "just another number."

Do you know all the pricing up front, or will it be "estimated" or subject to change (e.g. will your monthly rent fluctuate from month to month)? When you request a quote, be sure to ask for the monthly rental rate and ALL delivery fees, so there won't be any surprises. Ideally you should be given a monthly rental rate, which stays the same for the entire rental. Some companies will advertise the first month's rent and initial delivery fees only to lure you in, or charge you one amount for the first month's rent and then a higher fee for subsequent months. Get it in writing and keep it on file.

Portable Storage is Your Moving Solution

It's official: it is the first day of summer and the longest day of the year. Time to take advantage of these really long days of sunlight. Get out your summer to-do list and get cracking. Maybe you're getting ready for a big move while the kids are out of school, or you're planning to renovate your home while the weather is nice and cooperative. Either way, portable storage units can make your life so much easier.

Instead of searching out local storage facilities, or renting big trucks with poor alignment or temporarily kicking the cars out of their rightful spot in the garage, consider having a strong, watertight portable storage container delivered right to your door, on your terms (not someone else's schedule) for as long as you need it. Or, if you covet your driveway space or need to quickly declutter your home, we can whisk the container off to our secure, temperature-controlled (A/C and heat) warehouse for safekeeping.

With summer here, it's time to move it, move it. UNITS Mobile Storage offers one of the most convenient and trusted ways to get the job done with much less stress on your part. If you're in the market for portable storage, call today for a free quote: 678-838-6556.

Quality Containers Impress UNITS Customers

Customers needing to rent portable storage containers this summer have been impressed with UNITS for being water tight, sturdy and easy to use. Here's what a recent customer had to say about UNITS Atlanta on Yelp:

"Wow, these portable containers have gotten much better since we used pods a few years ago. We needed a unit in a hurry after our closing date got moved up suddenly. Units was the only company that could deliver the next day - and they were much cheaper than pods. Their units are so much newer and cleaner than others. We had it moved to our new townhouse and it fit right into a parking space. it stayed there with our stuff in it for 3 weeks. I was so scared that it would get broken into or it would leak. (my cheap husband wouldn't pay for storage - even though it seemed like a very reasonable price) Anyway, when we finally closed on our new place and started to unload, everything was in perfect condition. No leaks or moisture at all. I'm so glad!! Hopefully we won't be moving again soon, but I'll definitely use this company again. Thanks for all the help!!!"

Kudzu Review of UNITS Mobile Storage

Great Service

"We have used pods in the past and this time shopped around for price. Units was priced lower and they could deliver the next day - others couldn't. I was so surprised when the unit arrived. It was so clean inside and more like a moving truck inside than a box like we had with pods. With the racking system they have, we were able to secure an odd shaped antique spinning wheel perfectly. Also, they didn't leave it sitting in the parking lot, it went to their warehouse the day after we finished loading. Customer service was great and everything was in perfect condition when we had it re-delivered to our condo. So much easier to load than a Uhaul. We'll definitely use Units again."

Moving Back Home? UNITS Can Help

Like everyone else, you’ve been riding the economic rollercoaster of life. We certainly have at UNITS Mobile Storage. We’ve been helping customers who have been foreclosed upon as well as those moving back home after losing a job or being unable to find one. With national unemployment holding steady at around 10%, more people are heading back “home” than ever before.

If you’re a recent college grad or someone struggling to find a regular paycheck and are leaning on your parents, friends, or other family members right now for a place to live, the following tips might prove useful. UNITS can help you move home and share ways you can save a little money while you get back on your feet.

Sell it! When you live on your own, you tend to accumulate a lot of things (e.g. trinkets, excess furniture, and accessories), so host a yard or garage sale and turn those items into a profit. Post the sale on Craigslist or eBay. Remember, one man’s “trash” is another man’s treasure.

Find another use for it! Many items have a variety of uses; just employ some creativity. Do you still have that giant CD player that once was the centerpiece of your old entertainment center? Simply add the speakers to your computer, and voila, you have an enhanced sound system. Or, try turning your college poker table into a kitchen table. It can be fun and eclectic. You get the gist.

Go digital! Transfer CDs and movies, which just take up extra space, onto your computer, MP3 player or cell phone, and then sell the originals.

Store it! You might find yourself in possession of a washer and dryer, with no room to store it. You don’t want to get rid of them, because let’s face it, they aren’t cheap. A simple solution, while you live temporarily at your folks or a friend’s house, is to store them (and other large items) in a UNITS portable storage container in a temperature-controlled warehouse. That will save you from having to invest in new ones down the road.

Give it to charity! The best thing to do with unwanted belongings you don’t feel comfortable selling, but know someone else could really benefit from, is to give them to charity. There are millions of charities out there and most would be more than willing to take on your “gently used” items. Identify a charity or two that you care about in your community and see if they can put your stuff to good use.

Moving back in with your parents may not be ideal, but it won’t be forever. Try to stay upbeat and allow others to help you during this economic rough patch. And, believe me, you are not alone!

Moving is Easier with Portable Storage

So school is finally out and you've got to make a move this summer. What's the most convenient and efficient way to accomplish such a monumental project? That's easy; use portable storage containers!

With portable storage containers, you can take as much time as you need to load the container, decide if you want it temporarily stored in a secure, air-conditioned warehouse or moved curb-to-curb, and take your time unloading at your new home. How do you get started? It's so quick and easy. Simply call for delivery of a UNITS mobile storage container; pack the UNIT at your leisure; call for transport to the warehouse or new home; unload the UNIT at your own pace; and phone for final retrieval. UNITS Gears Up for National Moving Month

It Pays To Do Your Homework Before You Move

It's hard to believe it's already May -- National Moving Month -- the busiest time of year for changing residences. According to the U.S. Census, more than 37 million Americans move to a new home each year, and May is far and away the most popular month for moving.

Whether it’s your entire home or just a few pieces of furniture, homeowners across the nation are finding themselves in search of a mover or portable storage company they can trust. This is not as easy a decision as you may think with so many different options available. References are a great source of information for any and all moving options, which is why it’s highly recommended that you speak with friends and family who have recently moved and had a good experience before making your final decision. Researching consumer reviews online and even consulting organizations like the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and American Moving & Storing Association (AMSA) can help to provide accurate information and help you avoid being victimized by scams.

Moving Company, Specialty Movers or Portable Storage?

How valuable is your furniture? The more it is worth, the more you should consider paying a premium price to hire a specialty mover. Some companies specialize in moving large furniture items like pianos or massive couches, and it may be worth a few more dollars to ensure that your valuables get to their new location undamaged.

A regular moving company can be a great option for a family moving from one state to another or an elderly couple that can’t move their belongings by themselves and need some extra hands on deck. As with any project that requires hired help, this can be expensive, but could be just what you need to make your move run smoothly.

Portable storage companies can be the perfect fit for people who have time on their side, need some flexibility, or can do the heavy lifting by themselves. Portable storage units can be dropped off at your current place of residence and then picked back up and moved to a new location once they are filled. They can even be stored in a temperature-controlled (heat & A/C) warehouse, or moved state-to-state.

Go With Your Gut

Only you know what type of moving option is the best fit for your specific situation. Assess everything you’re taking with you, consider where you need to move it and identify the pros and cons of each available option. Once you have your needs figured out, you can do your research, check references and reviews, and be well on your way to a smooth and efficient move.

Tips for Students Moving to First Rental

Moving into a new place can be a challenge for anyone – especially a student. Moving from the dorm or from home to a first rental is a big step, and many first-time renters typically don’t have all the necessary information to make a smooth transition. Every year, students get caught in bad rental agreements, find out they can’t really afford this new cost of living or simply don’t have the right stuff to fill out their own place – life is a little different when you’re name is signed on a lease. As the owner of a mobile storage company who frequently works with people during moves when the stress of renting is at its highest, I have seen these situations again and again.

Below are a few tips and tricks to help students better deal with the transition into their first rental and a big step into being out on their own:

• Read your rental agreement carefully and get very familiar with it. There should be no surprises when moving in or out of a new place. Make sure you know all the costs up front, like security deposits, pet deposits, or additional charges for water, sewer, garbage collection and anything else associated with utilities. If you are familiar with your rental agreement and get all of this information at the beginning of a lease, there will be no surprise payments to cause stress or financial trouble.

• The financial obligation of moving into a new place can hit your wallet hard – especially for first time renters. It is better to be prepared for all costs up front by keeping track of your bills and recording your spending for one month PRIOR to moving into a new place. Record absolutely EVERYTHING. This is not the time to skimp or hide costs, be honest and make sure you can afford the lifestyle you’re living. Add up food costs, entertainment costs, clothing, and all of your utility bills, which include electricity, water, cable, internet and phone. After a month, you will have a clear view of how much you typically spend in that amount of time – and the total might surprise you.

• If you are going to have roommates, make sure you know them well. These roommates will be there for the length of your rental contract and you need to be sure that you can live with them and be around them for extended periods. Roommates can either make or break your living experience and if you are hesitant about someone you are moving in with, don’t do it! Listen to your instincts.

• Before moving into a certain area, check out your neighbors. Knock on their door and get to know them and get a feel for their lifestyle. Just like a roommate, a couple of good or bad neighbors can make a world of difference.

• Before your big move, make a list of all the things you need. You can start buying things as soon as you want and save them for your move. It’s better to get these things gradually rather than all at once, or it can take a big bite out of your budget. If you are moving in with a roommate or two and have more than you can use, make sure you have a place to store your additional things. Mom and Dad don’t have room for everything, so figure out what you need, who is bringing what and find a safe, affordable place to put the rest.

• Don’t forget to ask about student discounts! Part of the excitement of college is moving out of your parent’s home or the dorms and getting your own place for the first time. Like most things, a little bit of planning and preparation can go a long way towards a smooth transition. Thinking of the small things and laying out a budget in advance can do a lot to make sure that the memories of a first apartment or rental are good ones.
